Abstract

This article, published in the journal Endoscopy, examines the success and complications of Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) in different age groups. The study analyzed data from over 6,000 patients who underwent ERCP at a Canadian tertiary care center between 2011 and 2020. The results showed that while ERCP remains a reliable and safe procedure for patients of all ages, success rates declined and procedure times increased significantly in older patients. However, the incidence of complications did not vary across age groups. The study highlights the importance of considering patient age when assessing the efficacy and safety of ERCP.
