Abstract

Biophilic design incorporates natural elements into the built environment to create buildings that foster a human-nature connection. This design approach can benefit neurodivergent individuals, who often experience sensory overload and adaptive functioning difficulties. Natural experiences, such as exposure to water, plants, and animals, can help neurodivergent individuals tolerate and process information. Mimicking natural patterns and using natural materials in built environments can minimize visual discomfort and reduce sensory overload. Additionally, creating natural spaces with opportunities for active play, transitional spaces, and retreat spaces can support the well-being of neurodivergent individuals. The involvement of neurodivergent individuals in the design process is crucial to creating environments that meet their needs. [Extracted from the article]
