Abstract

A recent report from the Regional Center for Pediatric Diabetes in Verona, Italy, highlights the association between glycemic variability and time in range with the risk of overweight and high LDL-cholesterol in children and youths with type 1 diabetes. The study found that metrics of hypoglycemia and glycemic variability were positively correlated with BMI percentile, while LDL-cholesterol positively correlated with mean glucose and metrics of hyperglycemia. Additionally, a negative correlation was found between LDL-cholesterol and time in range. The research concludes that glycemic control and variability metrics are significantly associated with the risk of overweight and high LDL-cholesterol in this population.
