Abstract
- A recent study conducted at Peking University Third Hospital in Beijing, China, has found that Nitazoxanide (NTZ), an FDA-approved anti-parasitic drug, may have potential as a preventive treatment for rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The study used primary RA fibroblast-like synoviocytes (RA-FLS) and a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) murine model to evaluate the effects of NTZ. The results showed that NTZ inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion capacity of RA-FLS, reduced the expression of inflammatory mediators, and ameliorated synovial inflammation and bone erosion in mice. These findings suggest that NTZ could be a promising therapeutic agent for RA. [Extracted from the article]
