Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Fudan University in Shanghai, China compared machine learning algorithms with traditional regression models in surgical decision-making for cardial submucosal tumors (SMTs). The study found that the traditional regression approach outperformed the machine learning algorithms in predicting the best surgical method for patients with SMTs. The researchers used key baseline predictive factors and various ML algorithms, such as gradient boosting machines, artificial neural networks, random forests, and support vector machines, along with logistic regression. The findings suggest that the traditional regression approach may be more effective in this specific context. [Extracted from the article]
