Abstract

A researcher from the Buddhist Tzu Chi Medical Foundation in Taiwan has published new studies and findings on urothelial cancer, specifically focusing on the outcomes of segmental ureterectomy (SU) for upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC). The study analyzed the treatment outcomes of 161 patients who underwent SU and found that SU provides acceptable oncological outcomes if patients are carefully selected. However, patients with T3 or higher stage or comorbidity of end-stage renal disease are not recommended for SU. The study also identified risk factors for worse bladder recurrence-free survival and local recurrence-free survival. [Extracted from the article]
