Abstract

A recent study conducted at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China explored the role of Galectin 2 (LGALS2) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). The researchers found that lower levels of LGALS2 were associated with OSCC tumor tissue samples and were linked to clinicopathological characteristics and patient survival outcomes. Silencing LGALS2 increased proliferation in OSCC cells and made them more resistant to apoptosis, while overexpressing LGALS2 had the opposite effect. The study suggests that LGALS2 may act as a suppressor of OSCC progression by modulating the JAK/STAT3 signaling pathway, making it a potential target for treating OSCC patients.
