Abstract

A new report from the National Institute of Unani Medicine in Karnataka, India, explores complementary and alternative treatments for uncomplicated pelvic inflammatory disease (uPID). The study examined the therapeutic efficacy and safety of Sesamum indicum Linn seeds with Rosa damascena Mill Oil in uPID, comparing it to a standard control group. The results showed that the alternative treatment group had a clinical cure rate of 82.85% for lower abdominal pain and 83.85% for abdominal-pelvic tenderness, with no reported adverse effects. The researchers also used machine learning techniques to analyze the data and found that a Naive Bayes classifier achieved the highest accuracy for classifying the two groups of uPID. The study concludes that the alternative treatment is cost-effective, safer, and efficacious for curing uPID and could be a substitute for the standard drug used for female genital tract infections.
