Abstract
- This article is an interview with Mohima Mukherjee, the first author of a paper titled "Endoplasmic reticulum stress impedes regulated secretion by governing key exocytotic and granulogenic molecular switches." The study focuses on the impact of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress on the production and delivery of dense core vesicles and synaptic vesicles in neurons and neuroendocrine cells. The researchers found that ER stress delays the delivery of these vesicles, and reducing ER stress alleviates this delay. They also discovered that ER stress reduces the levels of SNAP25, a protein responsible for package delivery, through the activation of ATF4. This study provides insights into the disruption of vital messages caused by ER stress and its potential contribution to health problems. The author chose to publish in the Journal of Cell Science due to its reputation, history of landmark discoveries in cell biology, and rigorous peer review process. Mohima Mukherjee expresses gratitude to mentors and colleagues who have supported her research journey. She is currently focusing on other projects and completing her PhD, with the goal of pursuing a career in academic research.
