Abstract

A recent study examined the use of melatonin in managing nocturia in Parkinson's disease patients. The study found that a 2-mg dose of melatonin significantly reduced nighttime urine volume and the number of voiding episodes during the night. This finding is particularly relevant to men with prostate enlargement who experience nocturia. Melatonin supplementation may be a safer and more effective alternative to other treatments for nocturia, such as desmopressin. However, there are discrepancies in the effectiveness of melatonin dosage, highlighting the challenges in standardizing treatment. An upstream approach that considers hormonal regulation may be more effective in formulating treatment guidelines for nocturnal polyuria. [Extracted from the article]
