Abstract

Webber Ndoro, former director general of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property (ICCROM), discusses the influence of Western perspectives on the definition and interpretation of heritage. He highlights the need to incorporate diverse perspectives and values in order to create a more inclusive understanding of heritage. Ndoro also addresses the challenges of decolonizing heritage, including the limited participation of local communities and the dominance of Western-trained professionals in the field. He emphasizes the importance of anthropology in understanding and including the perspectives of marginalized groups. [Extracted from the article]
