Abstract
- Brennen Ferguson, a member of the Tuscarora Nation and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, recently participated in a restitution process with the Museum of Ethnography in Geneva. He noticed one of their sacred items on display and requested its removal, which the museum agreed to after receiving a letter. The item was successfully returned in February 2023. Ferguson discusses the challenges of restitution, including museums' reluctance to return items and the importance of respectful engagement with Indigenous Peoples. He also emphasizes the need for museums to reconsider their relationships with Indigenous communities and allow them to determine the appropriate treatment of their cultural items.
