Abstract
- Ozempic, a drug approved for diabetes treatment in Australia, is being prescribed "off label" by doctors for weight loss. This has led to shortages, as the drug is in high demand for weight loss purposes. Compounding pharmacies have started making their own versions of Ozempic to meet the demand, but these products may not be identical to the approved drug and have not been evaluated for safety and efficacy. The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) plans to tighten regulations on compounding pharmacies and is considering removing GLP-1 drugs, including Ozempic, from compounding exemptions.
