Abstract
- The Orenburg region in Russia has experienced major flooding, leading to the evacuation of thousands of people and the halting of operations at an oil refinery in the city of Orsk. The flooding was caused by a burst embankment dam and heavy rains in the region. The situation has been described as "critical" by the head of Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations, with over 4,500 residential buildings flooded. Neighboring Kazakhstan has also been affected, with tens of thousands of people relocated. The floods are considered to be the worst natural disaster in decades, and a state of emergency has been declared in the Orenburg region. [Extracted from the article]
