Abstract

This article explores the importance of pattern recognition in geography and the challenges that can arise when identifying patterns on maps. It emphasizes the significance of patterns, symmetries, sequences, and hierarchies in understanding spatial arrangements and variations. The author suggests various activities for teachers to help students develop their spatial thinking skills, such as learning the sequence of rooms in their school or naming ecoregions in a sequence from the equator to the Sahara. The article also discusses the concept of hierarchical thinking in geography and provides additional activities for teachers to use. [Extracted from the article]
