Abstract

A study conducted at the University of Oradea in Romania explores the challenges of treating infective spondylodiscitis (ISD) in hemodialysis (HD) patients. ISD is a rare complication that affects the long-term survival of HD patients, and identifying the pathogens causing the infection can be difficult. The study examined the antibiotic therapies used for HD patients with ISD and found that using Carbapenem alone or a combination of Vancomycin and Fluoroquinolone/Cephalosporines proved to be effective when the pathogen was unidentified. However, the study also noted the lack of guidelines and the need for more data to develop a comprehensive treatment approach for HD patients with ISD. [Extracted from the article]
