Abstract

A study on the emergence of financial capital in the health insurance business in Spain over the past fifty years has been conducted by the Department of Economics in La Coruna. The study found that sickness insurance companies in Spain were initially developed by doctors and healthcare professionals, separate from general insurance companies. However, from the 1970s onwards, there was a consolidation of the industry, with national and multinational insurance companies becoming more involved in the health insurance sector. This led to a financialization of capital in the sector, driven by bank investment funds. The study aims to provide an international comparison of these processes. [Extracted from the article]
