Abstract
- Kristalina Georgieva is set to secure a second term as the head of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as the nomination period closed with no other candidates challenging her. The IMF's board will now hold meetings with Georgieva and aim to complete the process by the end of April. Georgieva, a Bulgarian economist, received the backing of European Union finance ministers and has been a strong advocate for aiding indebted countries during the pandemic and for rebalancing the representation of developing and emerging countries at the IMF. Some House Republicans in the US have called for her replacement, citing ethical concerns and her handling of China's lending and currency practices. [Extracted from the article]
