Abstract

Researchers have found that messenger RNA (mRNA) technology, which was used in COVID-19 vaccines, shows promise in treating a rare metabolic disease called propionic acidemia. The study, conducted by Moderna, involved infusing patients with mRNA coding for a missing enzyme. Although the results are preliminary, they suggest that the treatment may reduce life-threatening medical emergencies in patients with the disease. This study is significant because it demonstrates the potential of mRNA technology to treat other diseases beyond COVID-19. [Extracted from the article]
