Abstract

The European Union has launched investigations into Chinese firms bidding for a Romanian solar park, as part of a new law aimed at preventing state-funded companies from using their financial power to outcompete EU rivals. The probes are focused on ENEVO Group, including LONGi Solar Technologie GmbH, and state-owned Shanghai Electric UK Co. Ltd. and Shanghai Electric Hong Kong International Engineering Co. Ltd. The EU is concerned about Chinese companies undercutting its clean tech industries, and is considering imposing additional tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles. The investigations are the second under the EU's foreign subsidies regulation, and the China Chamber of Commerce to the EU has expressed concerns about potential discrimination against Chinese enterprises.
