Abstract

The United States Government Accountability Office (GAO) has released a report on the 2020 Census, focusing on how the Bureau addressed unexpected results and developed annual population estimates. The report highlights two programs, the Post-Census Group Quarters Review and the Count Question Resolution, which were used to address unexpected results and challenges in enumerating group quarters populations. The report also discusses changes in the Bureau's methodology for developing annual population estimates, including the use of a "blended" population base that incorporates data from sources other than the decennial census. The new methodology has been supported by census stakeholders. The report provides valuable insights into the operational issues faced during the 2020 Census and the measures taken to ensure accurate population counts. [Extracted from the article]
