Abstract

A controversial mathematical proof known as the ABC conjecture has sparked bitter divisions among mathematicians. In 2012, Shinichi Mochizuki published a 500-page proof of the conjecture, but many found it incomprehensible. Kirti Joshi at the University of Arizona has now proposed a proof that he claims fixes the problems with Mochizuki's work, but Mochizuki and his supporters remain unconvinced. The debate centers around a part of Mochizuki's proof called Conjecture 3.12, which Joshi believes he has addressed more satisfactorily. However, the paper has not been peer-reviewed, and the controversy continues. [Extracted from the article]
