Abstract

Electro-discharge machining is one of the most commonly used non-conventional machining methods in all industrial applications. Unfortunately, the widely used dielectrics are still carbon-based, which has a negative impact on the environment and operator. In the literature, it can be observed that the emphasis is also placed on improving the EDM process while using more environmentally friendly dielectrics. There are a few possible alternatives and process modifications to conduct the EDM process, reducing the generation of toxic particles, fumes, and gases, among which dry EDM can be highlighted. In the paper, the current state-of-the-art and future directions of development of dry and near-dry EDM have been presented. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
