Abstract

A recent study conducted in Chongqing, People's Republic of China, has provided new insights into Whipple's disease (WD), a chronic disease caused by Tropheryma whipplei infection. The study describes three cases of WD with various clinical symptoms, including cough, chest pain, headache, dyspnea, sputum, joint pain, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and weight loss. The researchers used chest computed tomography (CT) and bronchoscopic alveolar lavage fluid metagenomic-sequencing to diagnose the disease. Treatment with antibiotics and maintenance regimens improved the patients' symptoms. However, more research is needed to fully understand the clinical value of these findings.
