Abstract
- A recent study conducted by researchers at Washington University School of Medicine explored the relationship between cognitive abilities, mental health symptoms, and community participation in individuals who have experienced a stroke. The study found that subjective cognitive ability, combined with mental health symptoms such as depression, apathy, and anxiety, fully mediated the association with community participation poststroke. However, objective cognitive ability did not have a significant impact on community participation. These findings suggest that addressing poor subjective cognitive ability and mental health symptoms together may be beneficial in promoting community participation poststroke.
