Abstract

A recent report from Kurume University in Fukuoka, Japan discusses a case of a 35-year-old Japanese woman with a rare autoimmune bullous disease called Immunoglobulin A (IgA) pemphigus. The woman also had IgA type multiple myeloma, a type of cancer. The patient experienced pruritic papulovesicles on her lower legs and trunk, and further examination revealed hyper-IgA globulinemia and increased plasma cells in the bone marrow, confirming the diagnosis of IgA type multiple myeloma. Treatment with DLd therapy was effective for both the cancer and the skin lesions. The report emphasizes the importance of clinicians being aware of the development of multiple myeloma in patients with IgA pemphigus. [Extracted from the article]
