Abstract
- A recent study published in the American Journal of Public Health reveals that 47% of prisons, jails, and detention centers in the United States are located in watersheds that may be contaminated with PFAS, or "forever chemicals." These chemicals, found in various consumer products, can accumulate in the body and have been linked to reproductive issues, cancer, and hormone disruption. The study highlights the potential health risks faced by incarcerated populations, who already have limited access to mitigating exposure. The authors call for increased water testing and mitigation efforts in these facilities to protect the health of vulnerable populations. [Extracted from the article]
