Abstract
- A recent study from the University of Nevada explores the impact of whole grains on phosphorus exposure in individuals with kidney failure undergoing dialysis treatment. The study questions the long-standing recommendation to promote refined grains over whole grains in the low-phosphorus diet for these patients. The researchers found that while estimated phosphorus exposure from mixed grain intake was higher compared to 100% refined grain intake, the additional phosphorus from grains was relatively low. The study suggests that clinical trials are needed to further investigate the efficacy and health impact of restricting whole grains in this population. [Extracted from the article]
