Abstract

A pilot study conducted by the University of Leeds examined the global practice of obtaining informed consent in pediatric dentistry. The study found that there are variations in the regulations and processes of obtaining informed consent for dental care in different countries. Factors such as age and competence are considered when determining consent in some countries, while others apply the principle of Gillick Competence. The study recommends clarifying when a dentist may act in the best interest of the patient and producing guidance on what constitutes a dental emergency. A larger follow-up study is recommended to include more countries. [Extracted from the article]
