Abstract

This article discusses the phenomenon of lek-based polygyny in Black-headed Ibis in Bhilwara, Rajasthan, India. The Black-headed Ibis, also known as the Oriental White Ibis, is a large, white-water bird with a black head and neck. The species is classified as "Near Threatened" on the IUCN Red List. The article presents four observations of lek-based polygyny in this species, where males have no attachment to specific females and mate with multiple females. The study also highlights the advantages for males in terms of passing on their genes, but notes that polygyny can be harmful to females in terms of breeding success. [Extracted from the article]
