Abstract

A study published in the British Journal of Dermatology examined the severity and impact of pruritus (itching) in prurigo nodularis (PN), a chronic inflammatory skin disease. The study focused on a diverse cohort of patients in the United States, including a predominantly African American population. The results showed that patients with PN experienced severe pruritus, reduced quality of life, and a significant mental health burden. The study also found that Black patients reported higher disease severity and itch-specific burden on quality of life compared to White patients. The findings highlight the need for screening and treatment of mental health conditions in this vulnerable population. [Extracted from the article]
