Abstract

The doping of divalent metal ions in organic crystals is used to enhance the optical properties in the present work. Pure and divalent metal ions doped anthracene single crystals are harvested using the slow evaporation solution technique in the organic solvent. The shift (≈ 0.1<superscript>o</superscript>) in high-intensity X-ray diffraction peak (100) reveals the structure change in doped anthracene crystals, and the Rietveld refinement of lattice parameters also confirms it. Metal ions doped anthracene crystals have enhanced the thermal stability. A blue shift in various peaks in the range of 300–450 nm of UV–Visible spectra and a broad peak in the range of 525–670 nm are observed in doped anthracene single crystals. An increment of 0.03 eV in optical energy bandgap is obtained in anthracene crystal by metal ions doping. A blue shift in all photoluminescence peaks of metal doped anthracene crystals has been seen. FESEM instrument was used to explore the growth surface and found that metal doped anthracene crystal has a smooth surface from captured images of microstructures. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
