Abstract
- Researchers from Rutgers University New Jersey Medical School have described seven cases of primary lung tumors with clear cell features and a distinctive FGFR3::TACC3 gene rearrangement. The tumors were found in four women and three men, ranging in age from 47 to 81 years. The tumors showed a solid growth pattern with central areas of necrosis and marked nuclear pleomorphism. Immunohistochemical stains identified a squamous phenotype in five cases and an adenocarcinoma phenotype in two cases. Next-generation sequencing identified FGFR3::TACC3 gene rearrangements in all seven cases. The researchers suggest that identifying this gene rearrangement could be important for potential therapy with tyrosine kinase inhibitors. [Extracted from the article]
