Abstract

A report from the National Science and Technology Development Agency in Thailand discusses a new method for detecting food additives using surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The researchers developed a plasmonic paper by growing gold nanoparticles on filter paper, which was coated with biopolymers to enhance its properties. The plasmonic paper showed high SERS performance and was able to detect contaminants such as melamine and b-agonists in food. This research expands the application of SERS technology in monitoring food adulteration. [Extracted from the article]
