Abstract
- A new report from Rhode Island Hospital discusses the impact of dexmedetomidine, a sedative, on fluid resuscitation in burn-injured patients. The study included 170 adult patients with burns greater than 20% total body surface area (TBSA) who were resuscitated between January 2017 and June 2022. The researchers found that the dexmedetomidine cohort required more fluid in the first 24 hours compared to the control cohort, but this difference was not sustained at 48 hours. There were no significant differences in adverse events between the two groups. The clinical significance of these findings is unclear. [Extracted from the article]
