Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shenzhen, People's Republic of China, has found that cancers have a higher uptake and consumption of carbohydrates compared to normal cells, making carbohydrates an effective tool for targeting cancer. The researchers developed a glycooligomer construction methodology that allows for the synthesis of sequence-controlled glycooligomers, which were found to be taken up by cancerous cells at a significantly higher rate than normal cells. The study suggests that these glycooligomers have potential applications in targeted cancer diagnosis and therapy.
