Abstract

This document is a first-person interview with Liheng Yang, the first author of a paper titled "Trophoblast organoids with physiological polarity model placental structure and function" published in the Journal of Cell Science. Yang is a Senior Research Associate at Duke University School of Medicine, investigating the use of human placenta organoids to study the innate immune defense against pathogen infection at the maternal-fetal interface. The paper describes a method to generate human trophoblast organoids that accurately reflect the physiological polarity of the human placenta, providing a useful tool for research in this area. Yang also discusses the challenges faced during the project and the mentors who have guided and inspired their work. [Extracted from the article]
