Abstract
- Baltimore is implementing a program to sell vacant homes for $1 each in an effort to revitalize neighborhoods affected by crime and disrepair. The program, supported by Mayor Brandon Scott, will offer over 200 city-owned properties to residents who commit to repairing and living in them. The initiative aims to prioritize individual buyers over developers, who will have to pay $3,000 per home. Home repair grants of $50,000 are available, but recipients must be pre-approved for a construction loan. While the program targets a few hundred homes, there are approximately 15,000 abandoned properties in Baltimore, and more may be included in the future. [Extracted from the article]
