Abstract

This document provides a detailed account of the construction of Corpus Christi College in Glen Waverley, Australia. The project faced controversy and financial challenges, but Archbishop Mannix expressed hope for its success. Architect Cyril Kelly was tasked with designing a long-lasting building without additional funds. The construction faced delays and disputes, including industrial action and disagreements over payments. Despite these challenges, the college was eventually completed and officially opened in September 1959. The article presents a balanced perspective, acknowledging the skills of the architect and builder while also highlighting the difficulties encountered during the construction process. Similarly, the text discusses the construction and legal issues surrounding the Glen Waverley Seminary in Melbourne. The building faced criticism from architectural critics, but it opened in 1960 and operated with initial challenges. The builder faced legal action and eventually went into liquidation, but the seminary continued to operate, offering a new approach to seminary training focused on personal growth.
