Abstract
- A recent study conducted in Islamabad, Pakistan compared the effectiveness of single-dose oral prednisolone and oral dexamethasone in treating croup, a common respiratory illness in children. The study involved 226 children with a Westley Croup Score of 2 or more, who were randomly assigned to receive either oral dexamethasone or oral prednisolone. The results showed that oral dexamethasone was more effective in reducing the total croup score compared to oral prednisolone. However, there were no significant differences in respiratory rate, pulse rate, and oxygen saturation between the two groups. Further research is needed to determine the efficacy of these treatments for severe croup and the potential role of multiple-dose corticosteroid therapy. [Extracted from the article]
