Abstract
- Researchers have submitted a patent application for methods and compositions for detecting esophageal neoplasias and/or metaplasias in the esophagus. The current methods for detecting esophageal cancer are not ideal, as they can be uncomfortable, expensive, and associated with false positives and false negatives. The new method involves assaying for the presence of differentially methylated genomic loci in tissue or bodily fluid samples, using techniques such as methylation-sensitive PCR or restriction enzyme/methylation-sensitive PCR. This patent application also includes methods for prognosis, monitoring, and evaluating therapy for neoplasias, as well as inhibiting or reducing the growth of neoplasia cells.
