Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Tianjin Medical University has shed light on the mechanisms behind glucocorticoid-induced obesity. The study found that macrophages play a crucial role in this process, with glucocorticoids stimulating the expression of Kruppel-like factor 9 (Klf9) in macrophages. The overexpression of Klf9 in macrophages led to the deactivation of M1 and M2a markers, promoting obesity. Conversely, mice with myeloid-specific Klf9 knockout were lean and resistant to obesity induced by chronic glucocorticoid treatment. The study suggests that Klf9 in macrophages could be a potential target for therapeutic interventions. [Extracted from the article]
