Abstract
- A recent report from Des Moines University highlights the importance of integrating biochemistry with clinical presentations in medical education. The study developed a small group active learning exercise called Scientific Knowledge Integrated in Patient Presentations (SKIPPs), which focused on inborn errors of metabolism (IEM). The exercise consisted of case simulations, group discussions, oral presentations, and discussions on evidence-based medicine. The research found that SKIPPs sessions were well-received and significantly improved students' ability to integrate foundational science concepts into clinical scenarios, practice interprofessional teamwork, and develop clinical reasoning skills.
