Abstract

As an extension of library, urban reading space in commercial complex has the advantages of easy access, strong affinity, and diverse services. Based on the access theory, this study investigates the access of urban reading spaces in five different commercial complexes under two typical development and management modes in Shanghai, and qualitatively analyzes the influencing factors and improvement strategies for the access of reading spaces. The results show that users prefer reading spaces that are easy to reach, simple in function, and continuously operational. The enterprise-led model should optimize the operational strategy to enhance sustainability. The government-led model should focus on the connection between location selection and public transportation system. Both models could enhance service quality and sustainability by strengthening cross departmental cooperation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
