Abstract
- A study published in the Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery & Psychiatry examines the impact of early treatment on scoliosis progression in patients with type II spinal muscular atrophy (SMA). The study compares scoliosis progression between treated and untreated patients and identifies specific cut-off values that indicate how pharmacological treatment may slow down scoliosis progression. The findings suggest that early intervention with pharmacological treatment can delay the progression of scoliosis in type II SMA patients. These findings can guide clinicians in determining the optimal timing for treatment initiation and have implications for treatment guidelines and policies for SMA patients.
