Abstract
- In this paper, we propose an efficient phase field method for the simulation of wetting phenomena on rough surfaces. This method is based on the minimization of the free energy functional over an extended domain that includes the solid phase. The solid phase is fixed as a phase field function, and a new phase field model is derived including the solid phase as a penalization term, We note that this method does not impose the contact angle boundary condition but is determined implicitly by the surface tension coefficients in the bulk of the phase field model, which is especially suitable when the solid surface is rough. A gradient stable convex splitting scheme is developed for the new system. Numerical experiments of wetting on some complex geometries are performed to demonstrate the capacity and efficiency of the new method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
