Abstract

The text discusses the history and current challenges of the bleeding time test, which has been used for over 100 years to assess primary hemostasis and platelet function. The test involves making standardized skin incisions on the forearm and measuring the time it takes for bleeding to stop. However, the test has limitations in terms of sensitivity, specificity, reproducibility, and scarring. Newer laboratory tests and point-of-care platelet function devices are now used to assess bleeding risk and the effects of antiplatelet agents. The bleeding time test is no longer used in everyday practice but may still be of interest for research purposes. [Extracted from the article]
