Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at Sichuan University in China aimed to develop a simple clinical risk score to predict mortality in patients with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (AECOPD) and cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The researchers used a prospective, noninterventional, multicenter cohort study to identify independent prognostic risk factors and create a risk score model. The resulting ABCDMP score, which includes variables such as age, blood urea nitrogen levels, consolidation, blood pressure, mental status, and pulse rate, demonstrated good discrimination and calibration in both the derivation and validation cohorts. The ABCDMP score outperformed other existing risk scores and could be useful in predicting mortality and guiding risk-based treatment in AECOPD and CVD patients. [Extracted from the article]
