Abstract

A recent study conducted in Bagamoyo, Tanzania, has found that malaria prevalence has been increasing in the country. The study focused on the Muleba district in the Kagera region, where malaria vectors have developed resistance to pyrethroid insecticides. The researchers analyzed data from household surveys conducted between 2015 and 2017 and found that the use of Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets (LLIN) with a synergist called piperonyl butoxide (PBO) reduced the risk of malaria infection. However, the study suggests that additional measures, such as housing improvement, may be necessary to further reduce malaria infection in areas with insecticide resistance.
