Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at National Taiwan University has revealed new findings on Classical Swine Fever Virus (CSFV). CSFV is a highly contagious disease in pigs, and in Taiwan, the emerging genotype 2.1 (G2.1) CSFV has replaced the previous G3.4 CSFV in the field. The study aimed to explore the mechanism of this genotype shift and found that G2.1 CSFV had superior fitness compared to G3.4 CSFV, with higher viral loads and shedding. The researchers suggest that this genetic shift may be partly due to the phenomenon of superinfection exclusion (SIE). [Extracted from the article]
